It's been a while since I posted, so I thought, I'd best, er, fill you in! (In no particular order this all happened/happening from September 2007 to the present:)

I finally passed Level 1 of the Open University's Social Science degree! Yipee for me. Now I am embarking on Level 2 - where things are getting harder and harder.

Went for a great job at ITV, which after the interview (and we've all been there,) you think you are the dogs bollocks and are going to get it! And for me it was the latter. I was soooo pissed off, seeing as the rapport at the interview was one of the best I've had but, can also, be misleading. Oxfam also got me in for a chat, but I knew deep down, that that was a no-no.

I've decided that am 100% certain - for the time being - that I don't wanna work in the media (just been offered work experience at a music pr company. Should I do it?) Unless offered, am sticking to being plumber's mate! Yup, aside from helping my brother-in-law with his advertising company, from time-to-time, I shall stick to carrying toolbags, cleaning up, and making cups of tea. Even though the weather isn't great this time of year, being a plumber is. Am slowly learning the tricks of the trade (Nope, you won't see me on House of Horrors,) and the pay is great. But I doubt a future lies ahead in it for me. But it fills the gap at the moment...

Can't wait for next week. Am off to Edinburgh - any great bars/cafes/underground places you guys can recommend? - to see Blood Red Shoes, before going to Glasgow - ditto! - to see The Cribs at the Academy on the NME tour.

Finally, things are not looking good on the renting front. Apart from gumtree, does anybody have any advice or good websites to visit for a spare room in and around London.

Otherwise, I'll have to follow the folks down to Royston Vasey...and that aint happening.....

Help! [Aug. 8th, 2007|02:30 pm]
I have found a website using my photos for its relaunch. I know they have got them from my FlickR account. Even though they are infringing copyright law, does anyone know how I should go about this as FlickR is an open tool to the public...Any solutions....?

Lording it up [May. 18th, 2007|04:28 pm]
What a picture...have just seen Razolight's Johnny Borrell at Lord's cricket ground with 'girlfriend' Kirsten Dunst.

She looked as bored as anything, while he just gazed around looking for adoration.

As for Dunsty's new offering - Spiderman 3 - the action was good, but the storyline utter poor and far too long.

Out with the old and new [May. 4th, 2007|04:11 pm]
According to reports New Order and Larrikin Love have both called it a day. Now there's a sentance I didn't think I would see myself looking at.

Though, am sure New Order are gonna be busy boys what with the Ian Curtis biopic film coming out at the Cannes Film Festival this month and other assorted memorabilia being endorsed by the ex-Joy Division members.

Also, are there any good bands/club nights around in London tomorrow, rather than the 'usual?' If so, let us know...

Glastonbury [Mar. 14th, 2007|02:53 pm]
Did anyone else apply for the festival this year?

I didn't apply on-line, I registered through the post. Today I got a letter through the door confirming all was OK with my registration and gave me my code number in-case I get through - which of course I won't!

April 1 here we go...

My weekend was mostly spent celebrating my dad's birthday. But, the fun thing was, and he didn't know it was happening, was that mum and I paid for him to have an introductory helicopter lesson. He even got a chance to fly it! He was so impressed, we are going to pay for him to lessons and become one. Then he can fly me over to Britain...Ireland...THE WORLD! The chance of actually owning a 2-seater 'Copter are about as slim as winning the National Lottery....They cost £120,000!

And today, I watched my dad bury a fox! He was actually in the house next door, but the elderly lady doesn't much look after the garden, and our dog sniffed at it through the fence.

It was a young female and, we think it was poisoned. Am not one for being sad - especially over foxes - but i have to say i was!

At least the sun was shining on her...

No shocks at the NME awards, then.

Kate Moss winning sexiest female is also granted as a shoe-in winner but, Matt from Muse winning sexiest male, though, has to be a joke!

STRESS, STRESS, STRESS!

Am freaking out over an OU Social Science assignment that has to be in next Tuesday. I cannot get to grips with it. Have waffled on for about 800 words and nothing makes sense to me. Its so much fun - not - writing essays again. If only I knew what I was talking about!

Last Saturday, I saw Jarvis Cocker at the Astoria. Still as quirky as ever. He played a gorgeous cover of a Talking Heads song called 'Heather', which I had never heard of before. He didn't talk about saving the Astoria - which a lot of NME bands have this week; The Long Blondes + Maximo Park - but was, nonetheless, still jumping around stage
like it was Glastonbury 1995...

good day to bury bad news [Sep. 22nd, 2006|11:18 pm]
Bad news: didn't get the job at the 'films, fucking and football' television channel, that I went for on Tuesday.

I wasn't the only one going for a job interview that day, as I nearly knocked over the waifer thin blonde haired girl from Britain's Next Top model on UK Living. She was carrying her portfolio. Though it couldn't have had much in there; she got evicted on the first or second show.

help [Jul. 11th, 2006|06:03 pm]
I've found some Waterstones/Virgin vouchers. Yipee for me! But, I don't really want to waste my Virgin V. on CD's. Has anyone got solutions to what I could get in Virgin without resorting to the CD?

Has anyone read any great books to recommend I get in Waterstones?

In other news, I need to start looking for media temping agencies. Apart from Judy Fisher - are they as good as people say they are? - can anyone give me any other good meeja agencies to go to?

Finally, is anyone going to Tin Pan Alley on Sunday? Should be a lovely day for it...Just like last year!

Reflect [Jul. 5th, 2006|06:44 pm]
As I'm sure everybody knows, this Friday marks the anniversary of the London bombings. What I didn't know - until last week - was that one of the victims actually lives just down the road from me.

I only found this out when he gave a 3-paged interview to a Sunday newspaper and was then talking last Monday evening on ITV's London Tonight.

He has only been in the property a short-time and that he was moved there because of the access ramp the building has to go in and out of the building on his wheelchair.

He was arguing vehemently in the media that the amount of money the government has paid out (so far) is not satisfactory, and the people who survived the attack meet regularly to work out a course of action to stand up to Blair et al who haven't sufficiently dealt with the sums they promised these people.

Hard-Fly [Dec. 7th, 2005|01:35 pm]
[Current Mood | confused]
[Current Music |Let Me Love You - Mario]

I SEEM to be updating my journal when lots of things have happened in a short space of time. It's like the cliche of waiting aeons for a (bendy - thanx Ken!) bus to come along and then 3 come at once!

Couple of weeks ago I attended the Tate Modern with Mr R to see the instillation by Rachel Whiteread called Embankment. If you haven't seen it, pop along and become mesmerised by a phalanx of white boxes. It's like being stuck in a sugar cube jar. They have stewards walking around just to make sure you don't touch anything sticking out. Ha! After walking around the boxes for what seemed like a decade (think Jack Nicholson in the snow at the end of The Shining)we headed up to the top floor for a drink. The view at night of St Pauls is a joy to behold all lit up.

We finished the night at Club NME at Koko seeing the Infadels, who seem to be trying to be a poor man's Faithless.

With great help from MrsS (who was doing a piece for the paper) she managed to hook an old work colleague and I with tickets to go to the T4 Pollwinners Party at Wembley Pavillion. All I can say is, the sooner the Arena is built the better! WP is like an over-inflated dance tent you get at Glastonbury or Reading. McFly walked away with a plethora of awards and Ashley Cole and Cheryl Tweedy breezed past Charlotte Church and Rugby Beau to win best showbiz couple. Receiving the award, Cole just smiled while Tweedy just squeeked! The most annoying feature of the day was the warm-up man who obviously had too much sugar on his cornflakes that morning.

After recovering from the salabrious surroundings of Wembley, I went from soft pop to dirty rock when I went to see Black Rebel Motor Cycle at the Astoria. A last-minute attendance was partly due, to the fact I last saw them in front of about 50 people at the Camden Barfly in late August - the day before they played the Reading Festival - and enjoyed them. What I didn't realise was that they had ask their fans over the internet to suggest the songs in their set-list. What emerged was 2hours and 40minutes of a BRMC's back catalogue. Well worth the money, but I doubt I'll be seeing them anytime soon....I'm all B.R.M.C out! Afterwards we popped in to White Heat - missed the band - but at least I could have a cosy lie-down on the sofa.

The following weekend I was at a friends' band's video shoot for their first single. We turned up late, but it had it's advantages as it was shot in Beyond Retro in Brick Lane. After they finished their set, we all strolled up the road to the Vibe Bar, where we overheard that Hard-Fi were playing a StreetGig in the Truman Brewery. Upon finishing our drinks and navigating the area we found out the rumour was...TRUE! They played an excellent version of the White Stripe's 'Seven nation army,' and we even had a drink we them afterwards.

In other news, my parent's got burgled last week. Luckily (if you can call it that,) it was only the shed. Unfortunately, my father had left all his electrical equipment and a broken TV which the thieves took in there. One thing we are glad about, though, is the night before he took his dolls house out which he has completed building for his granddaughter for christmas. I don't think he would've forgiven himself had he left that there!

And finally...come January am going back to studying as a part-time mature student. But my sister advised me to look at the Open University courses which are attracting me, more and more everyday. Am just trying to work out what would be cheaper and better in the long-run: OU v UNI: YOU DECIDE! Advice please...

One more thing...i've just heard Robert Miles 'Children,' and I feel exactly the same today...this year...as I had when it first came out in 1995. Hmmmm.....
